Attorney General from 1919 to 1921 who led the infamous Palmer Raids on accused leftists, anarchists and communists. He was also a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 26th district from 1909 to 1915.
He supported Woodrow Wilson in his 1912 presidential campaign.
President Woodrow Wilson appointed him Attorney General, where he took a hard line against progressives.
He grew up in Moosehead, PA., son of Samuel Bernard Palmer, an engineer.
In a lot of ways the hunt for radicals that he orchestrated was repeated a few decades later by Sen. Joseph McCarthy.
